The city of Miliana is located in a distinctive geographical position in the Atlas range, at an altitude of 740 metres above sea level.  It is about 310 kilometres from the city of Oran, about 100 kilometres from the city of Chlef , and about 110 kilometres from the city of Algiers.
The city of Miliana and its outskirts saw the gathering of primitive inhabitants in prehistoric times, and the site of (Zuccabar), which was inhabited by the Amazigh at first and by the Roman conquerors later, is considered noteworthy. Then the Muslims in the tenth century AD re-founded the city of Miliana there, following the disappearance of the settlement of Manliana that the Romans had established on the banks of the Chlef basin.
The Zayyanids seized the city from the second half of the thirteenth century AD, and when the Zayyanids weakened in the fifteenth century AD it split away from them and joined the authority of the emir of Ténès, independent of Tlemcen and Béjaïa, and it became semi-independent until the Barbarossa brothers came to Algeria and began expanding westward in the name of the Ottoman State.
Among the most important landmarks of the city:
1- The Museum of Emir Abd el-Kader
2- The minaret of the El-Batha mosque or the city clock
3- The mosque and shrine of the saint Sidi Ahmed bin Youssef
4- The Roman wall
5- The arms factory
