Activity idea

The cultural guide plays an important role in enlivening museums, conveying scientific information relating to the various museum exhibits to museum visitors, and developing and promoting activity programmes within them. In addition to their scientific training in the fields of heritage sciences, museology and others, the practice of this activity requires competence in the sciences of communication, cultural outreach, leadership and others, given the diversity of visitor categories comprising children, youth, adults, foreigners, specialists and others...

Despite this, this specialisation is still in its early stages, and many Arab museums still lack such competencies and rely mainly on non-specialised guides or on guides accompanying tourist groups. This calls today for serious consideration of urging those in charge to establish this body within Arab museums, to strengthen their qualifications in the fields of languages and cultural mediation, to adapt museum activities according to age groups, and to devise targeted activities that ensure the historical information is conveyed smoothly, pedagogically and methodically.

This activity aims to organise training courses for the benefit of cultural guides from the Arab countries and to provide them with the qualifications necessary to perform their mission in accordance with the international standards adopted in classifying this type of professional activity, and according to the requirements of each state, each category of museums, and each targeted age group.
