Libya National Commission Within the framework of the partnership between the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization and the Libyan National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, Dr. Ihab Al-Qustawi, Director of the ALECSO Chair for the Service of Childhood, facilitated and organized the workshop "Developing and Enhancing the Child's Media Skills" during the period from 23 to 25 June 2026, at the "Future Library in Tripoli", under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Abdel Salam Al-Qariw, Minister of Education, President of the Libyan National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and under the supervision of His Excellency the Secretary-General of the National Commission, Dr. Hussein Al-Dawi Al-Mashriqi, alongside Mr. Amin Al-Dahmani, Head of the National Commissions Department, representing Professor Doctor Mourad Mahmoudi, Executive Bureau Secretary and Secretary of the General Conference.
High-level figures from the Libyan National Commission for Education, Culture and Science and from the Ministry of Education participated in the activities of this workshop, represented by Dr. Khairi Shaw, Director of the Psychological Support and Counselling Department, in addition to many figures concerned with the affairs of the child and the media.
The opening session was attended by a number of officials, experts and those concerned with issues of childhood and the media, alongside Dr. Hussein Al-Dawi Al-Mashriqi, Secretary-General of the Libyan National Commission, and Dr. Ihab Al-Qustawi, Director of the "ALECSO Chair for the Service of Childhood", where the speakers emphasized the importance of investing in building the child's media capacities with the aim of strengthening the skills of conscious and safe engagement with Arab and international media and digital content, enabling them to contribute to consolidating the values of citizenship and raising their level of responsibility.
ALECSO's participation in this workshop comes within the framework of its commitment to supporting Arab initiatives aimed at empowering children, promoting media and digital education, activating cooperation with the national commissions, and enabling the ALECSO scientific chairs to contribute to strengthening joint Arab action in a way that serves ALECSO's areas of work and achieves the comprehensive Sustainable Development Goals.
A select group of experts and specialists in the fields of media and education supervised the facilitation of the workshop sessions, and the workshop covered multiple themes including media awareness, child-friendly media, media ethics, content production techniques, and the skills of preparing influential media messages.
It is worth noting that the workshop saw the participation of twenty-four male and female pupils representing a number of educational institutions from various areas of the capital, Tripoli. During it, the participants were given the opportunity to master and apply media knowledge and skills through interactive activities and practical demonstrations.
The workshop concluded with the announcement of the "Code of Professional Media Conduct for the Child", which included a set of ethical principles aimed at consolidating a culture of responsible media among children, and with the adoption of a number of recommendations, most notably the proposal to adopt the Libyan experience in the field of the "Media Child" as a joint annual Arab project for the Arab National Commissions for Education, Culture and Science, as well as supporting the nomination of the city of Tripoli to be the Child's Capital in the Arab World for the year 2027,
The participants, experts and bodies supporting this event were also honoured.
