ALECSO Organizes Training Course in Damascus to Strengthen Syrian National Commission’s Capacities in Strategic Foresight and Artificial Intelligence

As part of its efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and enhance cooperation with National Commissions across the Arab world, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) organized, in collaboration with the Syrian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, a specialized training course for the staff of the Syrian National Commission. The course was held at the Syrian Ministry of Education on 20–21 July 2026.

The training program featured a series of scientific and practical sessions addressing ALECSO's operational mechanisms, the role of National Commissions in the planning and implementation of programs and projects, and the methodologies and tools of strategic foresight, highlighting best practices for their effective use. Participants were also introduced to the latest applications of artificial intelligence in improving institutional performance, and how to benefit from the ALECSO-affiliated networks—including Schools, Clubs, and Chairs—to strengthen cooperation and expertise-sharing among Arab countries.

Speaking on behalf of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, Mr. Amine Dahmani, Head of the National Commissions Section at the Secretariat of the Executive Board and General Conference, emphasized that capacity-building is one of ALECSO’s strategic priorities. He highlighted the Organization’s commitment to supporting National Commissions and enabling them to keep pace with rapid developments in strategic foresight, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation. These efforts, he noted, contribute to the advancement of educational, cultural, and scientific institutions, and the promotion of joint Arab action.

For his part, Mr. Abdel Karim Al-Qadri, Secretary-General of the Syrian National Commission, stressed the importance of the training course in developing national competencies, reinforcing cooperation with ALECSO, and expanding the Commission's participation in the Organization's programs and initiatives.

The course was facilitated by Mr. Amine Dahmani and Eng. Bilal Amri, IT & AI Specialist at ALECSO's ICT Department. They delivered a series of lectures combining theoretical concepts with hands-on applications. They highlighted the latest practices in strategic foresight, artificial intelligence and digital transformation, as well as the mechanisms for benefiting from ALECSO's networks in supporting national initiatives and strengthening Arab cooperation.

The course saw an active engagement from participants, who discussed practical ways to integrate strategic foresight and AI tools into institutional development. They also emphasized the importance of exchanging expertise and learning from successful Arab experiences to improve the preparedness of national institutions to meet future challenges.

This training course reflects ALECSO's continued commitment to supporting its Member States in building institutional capacities, enhancing the competencies of national professionals, and promoting a culture of strategic foresight and digital transformation. It was also designed to strengthen Syria’s involvement in ALECSO's programs and initiatives.
