ALECSO Participates in the Launch of the Arab Model for  Quality and Excellence in Education in the State of Palestine

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), represented by its Education Department, participated virtually in an event marking the launch of the “Arab Model for Quality and Excellence in Education.” The event was hosted by the State of Palestine on June 7, 2026, in partnership with the UNESCO Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education (RCQE). It was attended by H.E. Dr. Amjad Barham, Minister of Education and Higher Education of Palestine, along with relevant officials, experts, and educational leaders from across the Arab world.

On this occasion, Dr. Rami Iskander, Director of Education at ALECSO, delivered the Organization’s statement on behalf of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General. He conveyed his greetings to all participants, emphasizing that the meeting goes beyond a ceremonial gathering and reflects a growing Arab awareness of the central role of education in achieving knowledge sovereignty, sustainable development, societal transformation.

Dr. Iskander highlighted that the launch of this Model responds to the need for a unified Arab reference framework for educational quality. Such a framework, he noted, would strengthen integration among Arab education systems and enhance their capacity for continuous modernization and development. He further underlined that collaboration between ALECSO and RCQE represents an advanced model of institutional partnership grounded in the exchange of knowledge and expertise. This cooperation reflects a shared conviction that the challenges facing education in the Arab world require a collective vision, shared tools, and adaptable standards.

The statement also stressed that quality in education extends beyond numerical indicators and administrative reporting, to encompass ensuring equitable access to learning opportunities for all, fostering safe and stimulating learning environments, and delivering outcomes aligned with development needs, labor market demands, and global transformations. It further emphasized the evolving role of schools as spaces for critical thinking and creativity, where teachers act as guides, facilitators, and designers of learning experiences, rather than mere transmitters of knowledge.

In a related context, ALECSO paid tribute to the resilience of the Palestinian education system and its commitment to its mission despite exceptional circumstances. It reaffirmed that supporting education in Palestine is key to strengthening the resilience of its people and building their future. The Organization also reiterated its full commitment to supporting the State of Palestine through initiatives in curriculum development, capacity-building, teacher training, digital transformation, and the expansion of students’ access to quality education despite ongoing challenges.

The statement concluded by emphasizing that the Arab Model for Quality and Excellence in Education is not an end in itself, but rather a starting point—a foundational step toward building an integrated Arab system for educational quality that can continuously evolve and respond to the aspirations of Arab societies for more equitable and effective education.
