The Coordination Bureau for Arabization in Rabat, affiliated with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), in partnership with the Moroccan Association for Lexical Studies, has issued the eighty-sixth (86) issue of "Al-Lisan Al-Arabi" magazine, in celebration of the researcher Professor Dr. Abdelghani Abou El Azm, the former president of the association, in appreciation of his scholarly career in serving the Arabic language, consolidating the standing of lexical study and developing its paths.
In his introduction to the issue, His Excellency Professor Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, the Director-General of the Organization, explained that the new issue of the magazine comes as an embodiment of the scholarly and cultural mission carried by the Coordination Bureau for Arabization, as one of ALECSO's executive bodies in the field of language planning and Arabization.
His Excellency affirmed that honouring Dr. Abdelghani Abou El Azm in this issue of the magazine "represents a station of fidelity to all those who have served our Arabic language, and a message of encouragement and esteem to scholars, academic researchers, students and the various people zealous for their language and identity", affirming that the honoured researcher "represented a model of the scholar committed to the causes of his language and nation, combining scientific precision with intellectual openness, and academic work with institutional initiative, whose active presence contributed to enriching the lexical debate, and directing research toward vital issues touching the reality of the Arabic language and its challenges".
In the editorial of the Moroccan Association for Lexical Studies published in the issue, the association's president Professor Dr. Omar Mahdioui said that the partnership of the Association of Lexicographers with the Coordination Bureau for Arabization in issuing the issue represented a precious opportunity to produce an issue that is dense in terms of scholarly material, in which careful selection, sober academic peer review and meticulous artistic production were observed.
The magazine, laid out in 400 pages, focused in its issue on the theme: "The Arabic Dictionary between Print and Digital: Theoretical and Applied Studies", and the issue included 14 scholarly research papers that addressed the building of the computational dictionary, and dictionary-making, in addition to linguistic statistical studies, the Arabic medical dictionary, and the impact of Orientalism on lexical research.
Researchers and interested persons may consult the Bureau electronically or at its headquarters in Rabat to obtain the issue in print, while an electronic version will later be available for reading and download via the website of Al-Lisan Al-Arabi magazine on the web: www.allissanalarabi.org.
