Under the patronage and in the presence of H.E. Dr. Tamara Al-Zein, Lebanese Minister of Environment, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (Secretariat of the Executive Board and General Conference – National Commissions Department) held the Second Arab Forum for Networks of Schools, Clubs, and Scientific Chairs Affiliated with ALECSO, under the theme: “Greening Education within the Framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”

The Forum was held on December 18-19, 2025 at the headquarters of the UNESCO Regional Office in Beirut, in collaboration with the Lebanese National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, and in partnership with the UNESCO Regional Office in Beirut. It witnessed broad participation from representatives of ALECSO-affiliated Schools, Clubs, and Scientific Chairs, alongside environmental policy experts, civil society representatives, and specialists from international and regional organizations.

ALECSO was represented at the Forum by  Dr. Mourad Mahmoudi, Secretary of the Executive Board and General Conference; Mr. Amine Dahmani, Head of the National Commissions Section; along with Ms. Radhia Arfaoui and Ms. Mariem Ben Mlouka, from the Secretariat of the Executive Board and General Conference.

The Forum was attended by participants from various Arab countries, including Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, Oman, and Qatar. There were also representatives from educational institutions, civil society organizations, and ALECSO-affiliated Scientific Chairs, Clubs, and Schools, who offered scientific papers and presentations on environmental projects.

The Forum addressed several key themes, including:

• The Education Strategy for Sustainable Development 2030 and the Global Greening Education Partnership
• Greening education: concepts and national policies
• Curricula and learning for sustainable development
• Towards green educational institutions
• Youth leadership and education for climate action
• Partnerships and financing for green education projects

The Forum featured fruitful discussions and presentations of outstanding experiences from the participating countries, culminating in practical recommendations to enhance regional cooperation and support innovative youth-led initiatives in greening education. Emphasis was also laid on the importance of supporting climate initiatives and partnerships among all stakeholders.

At the conclusion of the Forum, a number of ALECSO-affiliated Scientific Chairs were honored in recognition of their valuable efforts and significant contributions.
