The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) took part in the 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in India on December 8-13, 2025. It was represented by Dr. Humaid Al-Nofali, Director of Culture, and Dr. Imed Soula, heritage expert at the Culture Department.
The agenda of this session included presentation of the report of the evaluation body responsible for nomination files submitted for inscription on the Urgent Safeguarding List, the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, as well as the Register of Good Safeguarding Practices.
ALECSO had previously supervised the preparation of three joint Arab nomination files for inscription on the Representative List, namely : the “Bisht” coordinated by Qatar, the “Arabic Kohl” coordinated by Syria, and the “Zaffa” coordinated by Djibouti.
The official announcements of the evaluation results of these files are expected to begin on December 9, 2025.
