Under the patronage of His Excellency the Lebanese Minister of Culture, Dr. Ghassan Salama, and in the presence of His Excellency the Director General of the Ministry of Culture, Dr. Ali Al-Samad, the Arab League Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ALECSO) concluded on Thursday, October 23, 2025, the work of the regional workshop to support capabilities in the field of policies and governance of culture and the creative economy, which was hosted by the Lebanese capital, Beirut. About forty executives and employees working in the cultural sector, heads of cultural organizations and associations, and actors in the fields of cultural and artistic work, along with a number of researchers and experts, participated in this workshop. In a speech delivered on behalf of His Excellency the Minister of Culture, Dr. Ali Al-Samad expressed his thanks to ALECSO for its continued support to the Lebanese Republic and for providing the appropriate conditions for the success of this workshop, praising the programs implemented by the organization in the fields of culture and heritage. He stressed that cooperation between Lebanon and ALECSO is continuing, and has witnessed in recent years a qualitative development in terms of the diversity of programs and fields, pointing to Lebanon’s embrace of the work of the ALECSO Observatory for Architectural and Urban Heritage, and the selection of the city of Tripoli as the Capital of Arab Culture for the year 2024, in addition to the support programs and initiatives sponsored by the organization, which reflect its constant keenness to support Lebanon. For his part, Dr. Ahmadou Habibi, representative of the organization, conveyed the greetings of His Excellency the Director General of ALECSO, Professor Dr. Mohamed Ould Omar, to the participants and to the Lebanese Ministry of Culture, stressing that His Excellency’s directives emphasize the need to redouble efforts and enhance cooperation with all Arab countries, especially those that are going through exceptional circumstances, within the framework of the organization’s commitment to supporting joint Arab cultural work. The workshop lasted for three days, and focused on supporting capabilities in the areas of cultural policies and governance, mechanisms and approaches for preparing local cultural policies and linking them to sustainable development goals, in addition to the governance of the cultural and creative economy and ways to develop it in the Arab context.
