The Arabization Coordination Office discusses “Unifying and Employing the Arabic Terminology” in the third episode of its Cultural Salon

On Thursday, July 31, 2025, the Arabization Coordination Office of the Arab Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) organized the third episode of its monthly cultural salon, under the title: “Arabic Lexical Repertoire: Challenges of Standardization and Employment,” with the participation of researchers and academics from Arab institutions and universities. In his opening speech, the Director of the Office, Professor Dr. Murad Al-Rifi, stressed the importance of the lexical repertoire as the cornerstone of any ambitious linguistic policy, indicating the Office’s keenness to make this space a platform for cognitive dialogue and the exchange of visions on language and terminology issues. The episode witnessed two interventions by Dr. Abdul-Alam Al-Quraydi from Libya, who discussed the weak presence of the Arabic term in university institutions, and Dr. Muhammad Al-Amin Muhammad Al-Mustafa from Mauritania, who highlighted the institutional challenges that hinder the standardization of the Arabic term. The two guests, along with the participants in the meeting, agreed on the importance of strengthening coordination mechanisms between the parties concerned with Arabization, and developing Arabic lexical work to keep pace with the requirements of the times. They also called for the formulation of a unified vision in the field of terminology and lexical composition, based on integration between national and regional efforts, and built on solid scientific and institutional foundations. It is noteworthy that the Cultural Salon of the Arabization Coordination Office is an intellectual platform launched by the office three months ago, with the aim of discussing issues of the Arabic language and terminology, and exchanging visions and experiences among specialists. Previous episodes witnessed the participation of dozens of professors and researchers from various parts of the Arab world. The salon materials will later be published on the office’s platforms and website.
