Under the supervision of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, and under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation in the Sultanate of Oman, the Regional Symposium on "Improving the Ranking of Arab Universities in Global Rankings and the Mechanisms for Entry into Arab University Ranking and University Accreditation” was held on May 7-8, 2025, at Muscat University. The event is organized by the Omani Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation in Oman, in collaboration with ALECSO and the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science.

Addressing the Symposium, Dr. Mohamed Sanad Abu Darwish, Director of Science and Scientific Research, highlighted ALECSO’s relentless efforts to elevate Arab universities to the ranks of leading global institutions. He emphasized that these universities possess many assets that make them capable of nurturing individuals who are committed to their duties wherever they are. By aligning with the requirements of Arab and global rankings and accreditations, these institutions can develop their scientific and educational methodologies, thereby contributing practical scientific outputs that can play a vital role in addressing societal challenges.

The Symposium addressed strategies for enhancing the academic reputation of universities. It explored methods to align institutional practices with international standards, as well as improve key areas such as academic quality, the effectiveness of educational methodologies, and the impact of scientific research. The Symposium also offered insights into Arab and global ranking systems and accreditation frameworks, thereby equipping universities with the tools and procedures needed to elevate their reputations and improve their rankings.

Additionally, the event sought to support Omani universities in adopting best academic practices, meeting general and specialized accreditation standards, and strengthening their competitive standing at regional and international levels.
