Under the patronage of His Excellency Professor Dr. Mohamed Ould Omar, Director General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization and His Excellency Professor Dr. Issam Al-Ahmar, Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Tunisia, ALECSO (Department of Education), in cooperation with the National Center for Adult Education in the Republic of Tunisia, organized a study day on “Comprehensive Education and Social and Economic Inclusion: Lifelong Learning as a Model” at the organization’s headquarters on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, on the occasion of the celebration of Arab Literacy Eradication Day. It represents the Arab Day for Literacy Eradication, which was approved by the League of Arab States to be celebrated on the eighth of January every year. A renewed occasion in Arab society to support Arab efforts to promote the principle of equal opportunities in the education process, support every individual’s right to education, and ensure the continuity of education and learning throughout life. This year, the Arab Literacy Eradication Day focuses on “smart learning for a tomorrow without illiteracy.” Dr. Kamal Al-Hajjam, an expert at ALECSO, opened the school day by delivering a speech on behalf of His Excellency the Director General of the Arab League Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization on this occasion, in which he conveyed to the attendees the greetings of His Excellency the Director General and his wishes for success and good luck for the day’s academic work.  He emphasized the seriousness of the phenomenon of illiteracy and its negative consequences on the individual and society, which prompts everyone to cooperate, join efforts, and mobilize energies with the aim of resisting it and reducing its dire effects, by working to: -  Updating national strategies for literacy and adult education and reviewing them in light of global developments and the challenges of the times.  -    Developing a new strategy that aims to move the vision, philosophy, planning and action “from eradicating illiteracy and adult education towards lifelong learning”, so that we can target, with this humanitarian project, all those who have dropped out of school, to surround and guide them.  - Building effective and strategic partnership bridges with a network of stakeholders in the public and private sectors and civil society. And begin developing the currently approved educational curricula to keep pace with economic and social changes at the national and international levels. -  Raising the students’ self-motivation to learn and working to enhance their reading gains and basic skills, which would be an influential factor in the recruitment process, embodying the principle of lifelong learning.
