ALECSO Participates in the Opening of the National Forum for the Defense of the Arabic Language in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), represented by the Director of the Education Department, Dr. Rami Zaki Eskander, on behalf of His Excellency the Director-General of the Organization, Professor Mohamed Ould Amar, participated on 18 August 2026 in the opening of the work of the National Forum for the Defense of the Arabic Language, organized by the Jordanian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, in cooperation with the Amman Group for Future Dialogues, under the patronage of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, with the participation of a select group of academics, experts and specialists.

At the opening of the Forum, His Excellency the Minister of Education and Human Resources Development, President of the Jordanian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, Dr. Azmi Mahafzah, affirmed that Jordan's interest in the Arabic language represents a national commitment and a firmly rooted Hashemite approach, pointing to the Kingdom's keenness to enhance the presence of the Arabic language in education, culture and media, and to protect it legislatively through the Arabic Language Protection Law, in addition to developing curricula and teaching methods and qualifying teachers, calling for a transition from merely celebrating the language to empowering it in education, daily life, scientific research and creativity.

Dr. Rami Zaki Eskander delivered a speech on behalf of His Excellency the Director-General of ALECSO, in which he affirmed that the Arabic language is not merely a means of communication, but rather represents a civilizational, cultural and developmental cause, and that defending it is a defense of Arab identity, heritage and thought, and of the right of generations to possess the tools of knowledge and creativity.

He explained that ALECSO places the Arabic language at the core of its mission, through supporting its teaching, developing its curricula, qualifying its teachers, enhancing scientific research and Arabic digital content, and benefiting from artificial intelligence applications and modern technologies in a way that preserves the authenticity of the language and enhances its ability to keep pace with the requirements of the age. He also reviewed the project of the Unified Arab Framework for the Arabic Language, which the Organization is working on with the aim of unifying the levels of learning the Arabic language and the standards for its assessment and elevating the quality of its teaching in the Arab States.

The Forum also witnessed a speech by Dr. Mohamed Khair Al-Issa on behalf of the Amman Group for Future Dialogues, in which he addressed the challenges facing the Arabic language in daily life, calling for concerted national and societal efforts to enhance its presence in various fields.

The Forum's program included two scientific working sessions that discussed the issues of defending the Arabic language, activating its protection law, the Arabization of the sciences, developing its teaching methods, and enhancing its presence in the digital environment, with the participation of a number of experts and academics.

ALECSO's participation in this Forum comes as an affirmation of its commitment to supporting the Arab initiatives aimed at preserving the Arabic language, enhancing its standing in the education and scientific research systems, and consolidating its presence in the digital space, in a manner that contributes to achieving sustainable development and building a knowledge society in the Arab world.
