ALECSO Congratulates Lebanon on the Inscription of  “Jabal Amel Castles” on the World Heritage List

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) extends its sincere congratulations to the leadership, government, and people of the Lebanese Republic on the decision of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee to inscribe the “Jabal Amel Castles” in southern Lebanon on the World Heritage List and the List of World Heritage in Danger during its 48th session held in Busan, Republic of Korea.

This inscription represents an international recognition of the outstanding universal value of the “Jabal Amel Castles” as a remarkable testament to the successive civilizations that have flourished in the region. The site embodies significant historical, cultural, and architectural values that reflect the richness and diversity of the cultural heritage of Lebanon and the Arab world.

The inclusion of the site on the List of World Heritage in Danger also underscores the urgent need for international action to ensure its protection through the conservation and safeguarding mechanisms provided under the World Heritage Convention. This is particularly important in light of the challenges and damage the site has suffered as a result of armed conflicts, helping to ensure the preservation of its outstanding universal value for future generations.

ALECSO commends the efforts undertaken by Lebanon in preparing the nomination file, and reaffirms its commitment to supporting Arab countries in protecting and preserving their cultural heritage. ALECSO also remains dedicated to strengthening cooperation with UNESCO and other international partners to safeguard Arab heritage as a cornerstone of identity and a driver of sustainable development and intercultural dialogue.

ALECSO wishes Lebanon continued success in its efforts to safeguard its cultural heritage and further enhance its international recognition, thereby contributing to the preservation of the Arab world's rich civilizational legacy and humanity's shared heritage.
