ALECSO Congratulates the UAE on the Inscription of Wadi Wurayah National Park in Fujairah on the UNESCO World Heritage List

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) extends its warmest congratulations to the Leadership, Government, and people of the United Arab Emirates on the inscription of “Wadi Wurayah National Park in Fujairah” on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This landmark achievement reflects the UAE’s strong commitment to protecting natural heritage and conserving biodiversity. The decision was adopted by the World Heritage Committee during its 48th  session held in Busan, Korea.

This international recognition highlights the Outstanding Universal Value of Wadi Wurayah National Park, as one of the Arab region’s most significant mountain ecosystems. The Park is home to unique natural resources and rich biodiversity, including numerous rare plant and animal species, and plays a vital role in maintaining ecological balance and promoting environmental sustainability.

ALECSO commends the extensive efforts undertaken by the United Arab Emirates and the relevant national authorities to protect and manage this natural site in accordance with the highest international standards, as well as to prepare the nomination file that culminated in this well-deserved global recognition. These efforts reflect the country’s forward-thinking vision for environmental conservation and natural heritage protection.

ALECSO affirms that the inscription of Wadi Wurayah National Park represents a significant addition to the register of Arab and global natural heritage. It also strengthens the presence of Arab natural sites on the World Heritage List, showcasing the richness, diversity, and global significance of the Arab world’s natural environment.

ALECSO reiterates its commitment to supporting Arab countries in their efforts to safeguard and preserve their cultural and natural heritage sites and to enhance their presence on international heritage lists, thereby contributing to the preservation of this shared human heritage for present and future generations.
