ALECSO Congratulates  Tunisia on the Inscription of the City of Sidi Bou Said on the UNESCO World Heritage List

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) extends its warmest congratulations to the Leadership, Government, and people of the Republic of Tunisia on the inscription of the City of Sidi Bou Said on the UNESCO World Heritage List during the 48th  session of the World Heritage Committee, held in Busan, Korea.  This inscription is a recognition of the City's Outstanding Universal Value and the exceptional historical, architectural, cultural, and spiritual heritage that has made it one of the Mediterranean's most renowned historic cities.

ALECSO commends the significant efforts undertaken Tunisia, through its various national institutions, to prepare the nomination file in accordance with the highest international standards. These efforts reflect Tunisia's steadfast commitment to protecting, preserving, and valorizing its cultural heritage, and strengthening its place within humanity's shared memory.

ALECSO affirms that the inscription of Sidi Bou Said represents a valuable addition to Arab and global heritage. It further enhances the Arab region's presence on the world heritage map, and underscores the importance of investing in culture and heritage as key drivers of sustainable development and dialogue among peoples.

ALECSO reiterates its commitment to supporting Arab countries in their efforts to protect, preserve, and inscribe their cultural and natural heritage sites on UNESCO's Lists, thereby contributing to the safeguarding of Arab civilizational identity for future generations. ALECSO wishes Tunisia continued success in preserving this unique human heritage and promoting its regional and international prominence.
