His Excellency Professor Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), received on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, at the Organization's headquarters in Tunis, Ms. Petra Kuzman, Deputy Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean for Human Development, on the sidelines of the Euro-Mediterranean Conference on Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation on Sustainability, Open Science and Green Jobs, organized by ALECSO in partnership with the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) and the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed).

During the meeting, His Excellency the Director-General affirmed ALECSO's keenness to continue broadening the horizons of cooperation with the Union for the Mediterranean, in a way that strengthens partnership in the fields of higher education, scientific research and innovation, and supports regional initiatives aimed at entrenching the principles of sustainability and open science, and developing the competencies and skills needed to keep pace with future transformations, noting the importance of joint work between regional and international institutions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

For her part, Ms. Petra Kuzman expressed the Union for the Mediterranean's deep appreciation for the role played by ALECSO, affirming that it represents a key partner in advancing higher education, scientific research and academic cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean region, and expressing the Union's aspiration to strengthen cooperation with the Organization and to establish a more expansive partnership in the future.

The shared interest between the Union for the Mediterranean and ALECSO was also affirmed regarding further strengthening coordination on a number of strategic files, foremost among them ALECSO's participation in the ministerial process for higher education and scientific research, and cooperation in the area of supporting scientific and academic mobility, in addition to exploring the possibility of implementing joint initiatives that support joint research and scientific cooperation in line with ALECSO's priorities and programs.
