The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) hosted, on May 14, 2026, a national symposium entitled “The Cohesive and Supportive Family: A Foundation for Societal Security.” The event was organized by the Tunisian Ministry of Family, Women, Children and the Elderly, in partnership with ALECSO and the Arab Family Organization, on the occasion of the International Day of Families.

The opening session was attended by H.E. Ms. Asma Jebri, Tunisian Minister of Family, Women, Children and the Elderly; H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO; and Ms. Hadia Bahloul, Secretary-General of the Arab Family Organization, along with a number of experts and stakeholders concerned with family affairs and social development.

In her remarks, the Tunisian Minister emphasized that family cohesion represents a cornerstone of societal security. She highlighted the Ministry’s efforts in this field, particularly through the national action plan for family cohesion, as well as programs dedicated to preparation for married life and social integration.

For his part, the Director-General of ALECSO underscored the importance of Arab cooperation in developing initiatives that support families and help them address the challenges arising from digital transformation and artificial intelligence. He also stressed the need to promote values-based education and foster digital culture within Arab societies.

The Secretary-General of the Arab Family Organization stressed, in her remarks, the importance of preventive and participatory approaches, as well as investment in family guidance and counseling, considering it an investment in the stability and security of society.

The symposium featured a series of panel discussions addressing public policies related to family affairs and contemporary social challenges. During the event, Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT at ALECSO, delivered a presentation entitled “Electronic Games and the Family’s Role in Preventing Their Risks.” He highlighted the importance of parental guidance and digital education in protecting children and adolescents from the harmful effects of excessive use of electronic games.

The symposium concluded with a set of recommendations calling for stronger family cohesion and enhanced support for family-oriented programs and policies, with the aim of protecting children and reinforcing societal security.
