Director General With hearts believing in God's decree and destiny, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) received with deep sorrow and grief the news of the passing of the great Moroccan artist and composer Abdelwahab Doukkali, today, Friday 8 May 2026. He was one of the pillars of authentic Arab song, having contributed over decades to enriching the Arab conscience with immortal works that combined the delicacy of the word, the loftiness of melody, and the depth of cultural belonging.
As His Excellency Professor Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of the Organization, mourns this great artistic icon, he recalls with all appreciation his rich creative journey, which marked a milestone in the history of Moroccan and Arab song, with the values of beauty, authenticity and high artistic commitment it carried, making of him a school in its own right in composition, performance and creativity.
As the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization shares with the sisterly Kingdom of Morocco, the family of the deceased, and the Arab artistic family this grievous loss, it extends its warmest condolences and sincere sympathy, praying to God Almighty to envelop the departed in His vast mercy and pleasure, to admit him to His spacious gardens, and to inspire his family and admirers with beautiful patience and good solace.
