ALECSO awards Cultural Quality Label to the  Tunis International Center for Digital Cultural Economy

The headquarters of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) hosted a ceremony, on April 28, 2026, to announce the official classification of the Tunis International Center for Digital Cultural Economy as an “Innovative and Sustainable Institution in Cultural Industries and Knowledge Economy”.

The event took place under the patronage of the Director-General of ALECSO, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, and was attended by the representative of the Tunisian Minister of Cultural Affairs, Dr. Taoufik Grira, alongside Arab ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Tunisia, and heads of cultural and media institutions.

In his welcome remarks, Dr. Humaid Al-Nofali, Director of Culture, highlighted ALECSO’s  efforts to advance joint Arab cultural action and strengthen cooperation among institutions and professionals in the Arab cultural sector. He emphasized the power of culture in fostering peace, supporting development, and promoting social justice, noting that structured cultural cooperation is a key pillar of Arab integration in education, culture, science, and technology.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar underlined the importance of good governance in the cultural sector, in that it promotes accountability, reinforces trust, and enhances credibility in the work environment. He noted that ALECSO encourages both public and non-governmental cultural actors across the Arab world to adopt governance systems that support creativity, innovation, collaboration, and openness to global experiences. Within this framework, ALECSO has launched an initiative to develop a “Classification Certificate” to be awarded to specialized Arab cultural institutions that meet its standards, adhere to codes of conduct, and demonstrate commitment to transparency, quality, and sustainability.

Ms. Salwa Abdelkhalek, Director of the Center, presented the institution’s achievements in delivering cultural services and enhancing the role of culture in employment, investment, social inclusion, and sustainable development. She also highlighted the Center’s efforts to harness the competitive advantage of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in the service of culture.

Dr. Monji Zidi, head of the expert team, presented the evaluation report and outlined ALECSO’s criteria for the classification of Arab cultural institutions. He confirmed that the Tunis International Center for Digital Cultural Economy meets the Organization’s standards and that the expert team recommended approving its application and granting it official classification.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Director-General of ALECSO awarded the Center’s Director the official Certificate of Accreditation and Classification, recognizing the Center as a “Innovative and Sustainable Institution in Cultural Industries and Knowledge Economy,” along with the Cultural Quality Label.
