Under the lofty patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait, the ceremony closing the activities of "Kuwait Capital of Arab Culture" was held on Wednesday 11 February 2026 at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Center, under the supervision of His Excellency Professor Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), and His Excellency Mr. Omar Saud Al-Omar, Acting Minister of Information and Culture of the State of Kuwait, in the presence of Their Excellencies the Ministers of Culture and Information in the Arab states, Their Excellencies the Arab ambassadors accredited to the State of Kuwait, and a constellation of intellectuals, thinkers and media professionals.

The gracious patronage of His Highness the Amir of the country embodied the pivotal position that culture occupies in the developmental vision of the State of Kuwait, and also reflected the Kuwaiti leadership's belief in the role of culture in building the human being, consolidating Arab identity, and enhancing the values of dialogue and civilizational openness.

In his address, His Excellency the Director-General of ALECSO affirmed that Kuwait's celebration of the title of Capital of Arab Culture came as a crowning of a firmly established institutional cultural path, through which the State reflected an advanced model in managing cultural affairs, and qualitative support for programs of creativity, safeguarding heritage and enhancing cultural industries. He also highly valued the support the Kuwaiti leadership provided for this event, which had a great impact on its success and the achievement of its objectives.

For his part, His Excellency the Acting Minister of Information and Culture expressed the State of Kuwait's pride in this Arab cultural event, affirming that the cultural program implemented during the year of celebration constituted an interactive platform for Arab intellectual and creative convergence, and enhanced Kuwait's presence as a center for cultural dialogue in the region.

The ceremony witnessed a theatrical performance entitled "Naseej" (Fabric), with the highlighting of the achievements accomplished during the year of celebration, which included intellectual and artistic activities, youth initiatives, and heritage projects, reflecting the dynamism of the Kuwaiti cultural scene and its integration with its Arab surroundings.

At the conclusion of the occasion, the granting of the title of Capital of Arab Culture, after the State of Kuwait, to the State of Libya was announced, heralding the city of Benghazi's embrace of this title in 2026, affirming the continuity of the joint Arab cultural project, and enhancing the role of culture in supporting societal cohesion and consolidating the paths of construction and development.
