The Arab League Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization extends its warmest congratulations to the State of Qatar and all sister Arab countries on the occasion of the adoption of the Besht and its inclusion on UNESCO’s list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, in a cultural achievement that reflects the depth and authenticity of the Arab heritage, at the meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, held from 8 to 13 December 2025 in the city of New Delhi, Republic of India, and embodies the connotations of identity, prestige and social status that the Besht carries through... History.   This international accreditation is the culmination of participatory efforts and joint Arab action in protecting this authentic heritage component, as ALECSO experts, in close cooperation with the competent authorities in the participating Arab countries, supervised the preparation of this file in accordance with the best internationally approved practices in the field of preserving intangible cultural heritage.   ALECSO highly appreciates the attention and support given by the State of Qatar to Arab heritage, and congratulates its leadership, government and people on this honorable cultural achievement. It also congratulates all Arab countries on this success that highlights the richness and diversity of our common Arab heritage and enhances its presence on the international scene. ALECSO was represented at the meetings by Dr. Hamid Al-Nofali, Director of the Culture Department, and Dr. Imad Sawla, a heritage expert.
