The Director General of ALECSO participates in the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand

His Excellency Professor Dr. Mohamed Ould Omar, Director General of the Arab Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ALECSO), participated on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, in the work of the forty-third session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), held in the city of Samarkand in the Republic of Uzbekistan, with the participation of heads of delegations of member states and a number of international and regional organizations. During his speech before the plenary session of heads of delegations, His Excellency reviewed the most prominent efforts of ALECSO in The fields of education, culture and science, and its initiatives aimed at supporting Arab countries in achieving sustainable development and enhancing capacity building. He also stressed the importance of deepening partnerships between ALECSO and UNESCO in a way that contributes to achieving the goals of education, culture and development at the Arab and international levels. His Excellency the Professor reiterated the firm position of ALECSO in supporting the Palestinian cause, highlighting the organization’s keenness to coordinate Arab and international efforts to protect the Palestinian cultural heritage, support educational institutions in Palestine, and defend the Arab identity of the city of Jerusalem as an integral part of the global human heritage. He also stressed the need for the issue of protecting education and culture in Palestine to remain among the priorities of international action. Joint, calling on UNESCO and the international community to continue efforts to preserve the Palestinian tangible and intangible heritage and protect educational and cultural institutions from violations. At the conclusion of his speech, His Excellency the Director-General of ALECSO called for: - expanding areas of Arab and international cooperation in protecting heritage; - supporting digital transformation in education and enhancing the use of technology in Arab educational institutions; - empowering youth and women to contribute to building societies of knowledge and creativity; - strengthening coordination between regional and international organizations to ensure the integration of the cultural dimension into sustainable development plans, especially in the fields of education and research. The UNESCO General Conference, which is hosted by the city of Samarkand this year, is a prominent international station to discuss the future of education, culture and science in the world, with the participation of representatives of 194 member states and a number of international leaders and officials.
