Under the patronage of His Excellency Professor Dr. Mohamed Ould Omar, Director General of the Arab Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), a consultative meeting was held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at the organization’s headquarters in Tunisia, to structure the ALECSO Fund to support scientific research, innovation and leadership, within the framework of implementing the Arab Strategy for Scientific Research, Technology and Innovation approved by the Twenty-Eighth Arab Summit, which emphasized the priority of investment in scientific research and innovation as a pillar of sustainable development in the Arab world.   This fund is considered the first of its kind at the Arab level, as it constitutes one of the pivotal tools to support research and innovation projects with a regional dimension, encourage scientific entrepreneurship for young people, and empower Arab women researchers, as well as enhance integration between the industrial and service sectors and universities, which contributes to transforming research outputs into practical applications that serve development.   The meeting was opened by Professor Dr. Muhammad Sanad Abu Darwish, Director of the Science and Scientific Research Department at ALECSO, with a speech in which he conveyed the greetings of His Excellency the Director General and his wishes for good luck and success for this meeting, highlighting that the Fund represents a qualitative leap in supporting scientific research in Arab countries, and a strategic step to build competitive Arab human capital. He also stressed that the Fund will provide an innovative and sustainable financing mechanism, and will advance scientific research in Arab countries to the ranks of leading international experiments.   In his opening speech, Professor Dr. Farraj Al-Ajmi, Director of the Department of Education and Scientific Research at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, considered that the Fund is a platform for enhancing cooperation between Arab countries in the fields of research and innovation, and contributes to unifying efforts towards facing common challenges.
