H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, participated – virtually – in  the SDG4-Education 2030 High-Level Steering Committee (HLSC) Meeting, held on August 28, 2025 in Santiago, Chile,  in conjunction with the World Summit on Teachers. 

The meeting brought together over 28 Ministers and leaders from relevant international organizations and civil society institutions. It was chaired by Chilean President Mr. Gabriel Boric, alongside UNESCO Director-General Ms. Audrey Azoulay.

In his address to the meeting, the Director-General stressed the need to re-think the philosophy and goals of education in light of the current climate, social, economic, and technological challenges and transformations. He emphasized that inclusive and sustainable education is a key driver of change and development, and a foundation for empowering individuals and communities and for promoting human rights, without discrimination or exclusion.

The Director-General highlighted the pivotal role of teachers in enhancing the quality of education, pointing to ALECSO’s efforts, jointly with Arab countries, to develop teacher-related policies. These include areas such as qualification, recruitment, and training, as well as promoting their status, protecting them from violence and discrimination, and ensuring their active engagement in developing and reforming education policies.

The Director-General reaffirmed ALECSO’s commitment, as part of its Action Plan 2023–2028, to supporting the digital transformation of education, in addition to implementing initiatives and projects aimed at improving educational data, enhancing response in emergency situations, and reducing learning gaps, all in line with the recommendations of the Transforming Education Summit (New York - 2022) and the outcomes of previous HLSC meetings.  

The Director-General concluded by expressing hope that the outcomes of the current HLSC meeting, and those of the World Summit on Teachers, will serve as a practical incentive to come out with sound decisions and take appropriate actions that will advance the achievement of SDG 4—Education 2030.
