Department Director

Professor Dr. Mohamed Jemni is a professor of Computer Science and Education Technologies at the University of Tunis and currently holds, since 2013, the position of Director of the Information and Communication Technology Department at ALECSO (the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization), where he supervises the implementation of a number of projects related to the development of education in the Arab world using information and communication technology, such as the Smart Learning in the Arab World project, the project to promote e-learning, open education and open digital educational resources, the project to promote Arabic mobile applications in the fields of education, culture and science, and the project to empower persons with disabilities using information and communication technology. From 2008 to 2013 he also held the position of Director-General of the Khawarizmi Computing Center, the internet service provider for the higher education and scientific research sector in Tunisia. He was also, until 2013, head of the Research Laboratory of Information and Communication Technologies and Electrical Engineering (LaTICE) at the University of Tunis. Over the past twenty-five years he has supervised numerous scientific research works in the fields of education technologies, e-learning, high-performance scientific computing, and facilitating access of persons with disabilities to information and communication technology. He has published more than 300 scientific papers in international books, journals and scientific conferences, and produced numerous studies on information and communication technology, digital accessibility for persons with disabilities, e-learning and entrepreneurship education for international organizations such as UNESCO, the International Telecommunication Union and the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization. Professor Mohamed Jemni and his laboratory have received numerous national and international awards, including the silver medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions in Kuwait in 2007, the UNESCO prize in 2008 for the curricula they developed for e-learning for blind persons, the President of the Republic's award for the inclusion of persons with disabilities in 2009, and the "World Summit Award (WSA) - Mobile 2010" in the field of social inclusion. In April 2012 his laboratory LaTICE received the Google Student Award and Dr. Jemni received the best paper award at the Web for All Conference 2012. He also won the International Telecommunication Union award (best innovation in applying information and communication technology) during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) forum in Geneva in May 2013.
