The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) took part in the Regional Forum on Media and Information Literacy, held on October 6-8, 2025, in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. The Forum was organized by the Omani Ministry of Education and the UNESCO Regional Office in Doha, in collaboration with the Omani Ministry of Information, and in partnership with ALECSO and ICESCO.

The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Harrasi, Minister of Information, and was attended by H.E. Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al-Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, along with relevant officials and experts from international organizations and media and educational institutions.

Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT at ALECSO, took part in the opening session dedicated to the representatives of international organizations,  and offered a presentation on “The Importance of Media and Information Literacy in the Digital Age from the Perspective of International Organizations.” He noted that the world is currently experiencing an unprecedented digital revolution, where the challenge is no longer accessing information, but rather understanding it, recognizing its production context, and distinguishing reliable content from misinformation—especially amid the surge in AI-generated content and the influence of algorithms on public opinion.  

Dr. Jemni emphasized that the ALECSO Charter on AI Ethics (2025) provides an Arab reference framework to promote the responsible use of modern technologies in education, culture, and media. The Charter, he added, is based on five core principles: human dignity, justice and equity, transparency and accountability, cultural respect and Arab identity, and responsible innovation. He stressed that the Charter constitutes a pioneering step toward embedding media and digital literacy in the Arab region, and called for further collaborative efforts among organizations and governments to foster a digital culture rooted in awareness, responsibility, and ethical innovation.
