As part of ALECSO’s “Honorary Lectures on Cultural Heritage in the Arab World”, a lecture was organized on September 18, 2025 in the Algerian capital, Algiers, entitled : “Cultural Heritage in the Context of Armed Conflicts.”

The opening session was inaugurated by H.E. Dr. Malika Bendouda, Algerian Minister of Culture and Arts, and Dr. Humaid Al-Nofali, Director of Culture at ALECSO.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Al-Nofali conveyed the greetings of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, to all those present, and emphasized the importance of this event, held as part of bilateral cooperation between ALECSO and Algeria.  He noted that the choice of the topic—cultural heritage in the context of armed conflicts—reflects ALECSO's deep awareness of its responsibility in the face of violations targeting archaeological and heritage sites in several Arab countries, with the resulting destruction and erasure of historical landmarks, which threatens collective human memory.

The program featured an honorary lecture titled “Cultural Heritage and the Challenges of Armed Conflicts”, delivered by Prof. Mounir Bouchenaki, who was later honored by ALECSO in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the preservation of Arab archaeological and civilizational heritage.

The event also featured contributions from Dr. Farah El-Husseini (Egypt), Dr. Mohammed Sehnouni (Algeria), and Dr. Lotfi Naddari (Tunisia), followed by an extended panel discussion that brought together experts, representatives of official bodies, academics, students, media professionals, and civil society participants. The session was marked by serious engagement and positive interaction.

Participants commended ALECSO's initiative in combining the honoring of scholars with the opportunity to benefit from their expertise and experiences.

The event concluded with cultural field visits.
