Conference 01: "Higher Education and Comprehensive Development", Algiers, Algerian Republic - May 1981

The conference addressed the role of higher education in achieving comprehensive development in the Arab states and explored the means capable of ensuring that role. The conference's recommendations were directed to the states in the fields of comprehensive development, Arab self-development, the development of scientific competencies, integration among the Arab countries in the field of higher education, and higher education for Palestinians. The conference also directed recommendations to the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), the most prominent of which was the organization of a "Conference of Ministers Responsible for Higher Education in the Arab World on a periodic basis", and the formation of a committee to follow up on the implementation of the first conference's recommendations.
