Algeria is located in North Africa. Its capital and most populous city is Algiers, located in the far north of the country. With an area of 2,381,741 square kilometers and a population exceeding 43,851,044, Algeria is the tenth largest country in the world, the largest in Africa, the Arab world and the Mediterranean, and the second in the Islamic world after the Republic of Kazakhstan. It joined ALECSO in 1970 (founding member).
