It is an active member of the League of Arab States, the African Union and the International Organization of La Francophonie. Djibouti is located on the western shore of the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, bordered by Eritrea to the north, Ethiopia to the west and south, and Somalia to the southeast, while overlooking the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden to the east. It has been a member of ALECSO since 1978.
